My first session of the day on June 29th was BRKVVT-2011 “Best Practices for Migrating Previous Versions of Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) to CUCM 7.1. The session took place in Moscone West, room 2008. The presenter was Brandon Ta, a Technology Solutions Architect at Cisco, and he gave a great presentation about strategies to use when upgrading CUCM.

Brandon described three different types of upgrades: Flash-cut, Migration and Hybrid. He gave specific strategies and scenarios for each type of upgrade and discussed when each might be appropriate. I shot more than an hour of video, which I broke up into ~5 minute segments for easier manipulation. The video is uploading to my YouTube channel as time permits. With this much video, it will take quite awhile to get it all uploaded. Once some of the key sections are uploaded, I’ll embed them in an update to this post.

Part 1:

Part 11:

Part: ~15 (I ran out of power on my Flip camera, so this one is from my iPhone 3G S. This has the added benefit of allowing you to compare videos from the two devices. Leave your thoughts in the comments.)

I just checked in for my flight at Delta.com. I have been a loyal customer of Delta Airlines for years, and they have always treated me very well. In the past 12 months, my travel for work has been significantly reduced and I now work from home. Although I miss the perks of being a “Platinum Elite” member of the Delta Skymiles program (a great rewards program, btw), I am actually not too sad to have lost my status. This is my last year as a Silver member, but somehow Delta managed to pass along a First-Class upgrade for the Atlanta to San Francisco leg of my flight today. Thanks Delta!
